PERFORMANCE TRANSITION 5TH NOVEMBER – 14TH JANUARY 2012 This project explored live art and performance’s relationship with photography and documentation.
CAZ, the Penzance-based, artist-led initiative presented a live art archive featuring works produced in the region since 1996. Projects featured had been co-produced and/or hosted by Newlyn Art Gallery in partnership with Art Surgery and ArtDept.
Alongside this archive there was a display of performance for camera. Manuel Vason’s collaborations have produced some of the most iconic images of live art, bridging photography and performance.
There was also a series of images created by St Just-based artists, Zierle & Carter, while on a residency at The Banff Centre, Canada.
At the centre of this exhibition there was be a performance space for a live art version of Transition, the gallery’s regular opportunity for artists to test new ideas in the gallery while visitors look on. After five performance weeks, documentation of the activity was displayed for the remainder of the exhibition.
